Michael Chukwudi

Chukwudi was born into an average Igbo family in the southwestern part of Nigeria. He completed his primary and secondary education there in Ondo state and thus fluent in both Igbo and Yoruba language. His interest in STEM started in primary school due to his curiosity to decipher situations and together with his knowledge earned him the ability to represent the school in mostly mathematics competitions. During his secondary school, he proceeded with the same vigour with the assistance of a mentor to become the favourite in mathematics and chemistry subject. He sometimes won cash prize from his teacher for the best in chemistry in addition to other recognitions in both subjects. In 2007, Chukwudi gained admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka to study Biochemistry. He graduated in 2011 with a Second Class Upper and has ever since been engaged as a tutor in STEM education both for groups and one-on-one lessons. He has taught and mentored several secondary students and was often recommended for the success stories. He is presently a Scientific Officer in Environmental Sciences and Technology Department of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) Abuja, Nigeria. His move into the public policy industry was born out of the passion to contribute in decision making and awareness creation for sciences so it could attract the adequate funding needed to boost research & development. He assists in initiating, designing, monitoring and implementing policies, programmes and projects in Climate Change area for application in Nigeria. In 2017, Chukwudi completed the “Climate Change Impact, Mitigation & Adaptation” course organized by West Africa Science Service Centre on Climate Change & Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) in Accra Ghana, during which he made a presentation on “Climate Change and Population Distribution; Nigeria as case study”. For his role as the desk officer to the Clean Cook-stove Technology project of the Ministry, in 2019 he was also selected for the Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is committed to promoting Science in general and hope to acquire more knowledge in Environmental Science and Management precisely, in Carbon credit/emission reduction.
