Dr Ikpefan is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher of Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry at the Delta State University Abraka, Nigeria. His research focuses on the screening of Nigerian Medicinal Plants reputed for anticancer activities and isolating their bioactive constituents. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Biology and Biotechnology as well as a Master’s and Doctorate in Pharmacognosy from the prestigious University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He is a recipient of several travel grants such as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) travel grant and the West African Research Center (WARC) as well as Gordon Research Seminar and Conference grants. He has also obtained a Fellowship Award of the Joint Non-Align Movement for Science and Technology (NAM S&T) and International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi Pakistan. His research work, apart from being published in revered journals, has recently resulted in the isolation of a novel anticancer compound (a diterpenoid) obtained from a Nigeria plant. He is an ambassador of the European Association of Cancer Research, Associate Member, Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC), and a member of the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy (MNSP).
