"Good science journalism will help the public appreciate the importance of scientific research in our society."

Abubakar Haruna Galadanchi has been a journalist with Amunci Radio 103.9fm since 2006. He had his undergraduate degree from Bayero University Kano where he read Language and Linguistics in the year 2013.

Abubakar developed an interest in Science Journalism after experiencing a terrible outbreak of cholera in Kano in the year 2005, which led to the death of almost 100 children as a result of poisonous beans.

Following his report of the terrible condition and poor atmosphere of police hospitals in Kano, Abubakar was among the few journalists from northern Nigeria awarded with certificate of integrity and hardworking by the Inspector General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015.

Abubakar has attended many workshops and conferences, including a workshop organised by the BBC at Kano State in 2011. He is a member of Nigerian Crime Reporters Association. Abubakar reports for VOA English Service and other online news platforms as a freelancer.
